Hollyland Lark Mics Compared: A1 vs M2 vs M2S vs MAX 2

Hollyland makes some of the most popular wireless microphones for creators, live sellers and small video crews. The problem is choice: LARK A1, Lark M2, Lark M2S, LARK MAX 2 — plus a different receiver for every phone and camera. Buy the wrong combination and the mic will not even plug in.

This guide explains the Lark family in plain language: what each model is for, how transmitters and receivers work together, and which one we would choose for different jobs.

Quick answer

  • LARK A1 — the budget choice. Very light, simple, great for phone vlogging and live selling.
  • Lark M2 — button-sized with magnetic mounting. Best when you want the mic small or hidden.
  • Lark M2S — clip-on, even lighter, with longer battery life and a clean look. A strong all-rounder.
  • LARK MAX 2 — the professional option, with 32-bit float backup recording inside the transmitter, timecode and a touchscreen receiver.
  • Golden rule: choose the receiver that matches your device — USB-C, Lightning or camera — and keep transmitter and receiver in the same series.

How A Lark System Works: TX + RX

Every wireless mic system has two parts:

  • TX (transmitter) — clips onto your shirt. It contains the microphone and sends your voice wirelessly.
  • RX (receiver) — plugs into your phone or sits on your camera, and delivers the sound into your recording or live stream.

At até·komë you can buy complete kits, or individual TX and RX units to add a second presenter or replace a lost part. The receiver choice depends on your device:

Receiver typePlugs intoChoose it for
USB-C RXAndroid phones, iPhone 15 and newer, iPad, laptopsPhone vlogging, TikTok Live, Shopee Live
Lightning RXiPhone 14 and olderLive selling and vlogging with older iPhones
Camera RXCameras and mixers via 3.5mm cable, mounted on the hot shoeMirrorless cameras, interviews, events, streaming setups
From the control room: transmitters and receivers pair within their own series — an M2S transmitter belongs with an M2S receiver, a MAX 2 transmitter with a MAX 2 receiver. Before you buy a spare part, check which series you own. If you are not sure, send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will check for you.

Figures are manufacturer claims. Real range and battery life depend on the venue, obstacles, noise cancelling settings and temperature — always test before an important job.

LARK A1: The Budget Starter

The A1 is Hollyland's entry-level Lark. The transmitter weighs just 8 g, has noise cancelling with three strength levels, and is designed for smartphone creators. If you are starting TikTok Live, Shopee Live or simple vlogs, the A1 gives you clear voice for the lowest cost in the range.

Choose it if: you mainly use a phone, you are on a tight budget, or you need a simple second mic for a co-host.

Lark M2: The Smallest, Most Discreet Look

The M2 transmitter is a small button-shaped unit that attaches with a magnet, a clip or a necklace. That flexibility makes it easy to hide under clothing or wear neatly for interviews and talks. Battery life is up to 10 hours per transmitter, or around 40 hours with the charging case.

Choose it if: appearance matters — weddings, corporate videos, interviews — and you want the mic as invisible as possible.

Lark M2S: The All-Rounder

The M2S is the newer, lighter sibling of the M2: a 7 g transmitter with a fixed clip and no visible branding, so it looks clean on camera. It offers longer battery life than the M2 and adjustable noise cancelling. The trade-off is that the fixed clip makes it harder to hide completely.

Choose it if: you want one mic for everything — vlogs, live streams, YouTube and podcasts — and prefer a neat, visible clip-on look.

LARK MAX 2: The Professional Choice

The MAX 2 is built for jobs where you cannot afford to lose audio. Each transmitter can record internally in 32-bit float — a backup recording that is very hard to clip or distort, even if someone suddenly shouts. It adds frame-level timecode for syncing with cameras, a touchscreen receiver showing battery and signal status, and a charging case for long days.

Choose it if: you film events, interviews, documentaries or paid client work, or you want a backup recording every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use one receiver with two transmitters?

Yes — Lark receivers are designed to work with two transmitters, so two people can be recorded at once. Add a second transmitter from the same series to expand your kit.

Can I mix transmitters and receivers from different Lark models?

Keep them within the same series. If you are unsure which series you own, send us a photo and we will confirm before you buy.

Which receiver do I need for an iPhone?

iPhone 15 and newer use USB-C. iPhone 14 and older use Lightning.

Is 32-bit float recording worth it?

For paid jobs, events and interviews — yes. It gives you a safe backup that is very hard to distort, even if the wireless signal drops or someone speaks loudly.

Can you help me choose the right kit?

Yes. Tell us your phone or camera model and what you film, and a broadcast professional will recommend the right transmitter and receiver — free.
